epiLoom

Prototype of an ILAE-2017-oriented epilepsy monitoring platform, conceived as a proof of concept for Swiss neurology departments. The project demonstrates real-time patient monitoring, AI-assisted seizure prediction and alignment with Swiss medical standards (ICD-10-GM, Swissmedic, EPD).

Problem

Epilepsy monitoring often relies on paper seizure diaries and manual EEG analysis — time-consuming, error-prone and carrying the risk of overlooked patterns.

Solution

A conceptual ILAE-2017-oriented platform showing how real-time patient monitoring, AI-assisted seizure prediction and integration into a modern medical infrastructure (ICD-10-GM, EPD, FHIR) could work together.

Target audience

Epilepsy clinics, inpatient monitoring units and affected patients with their treating physicians — wherever seizure documentation today gets lost between paper, memory and EEG analysis.

Tech Stack

React Native Node.js TensorFlow FHIR WebSockets

Compliance

ILAE 2017 ICD-10-GM EPD FHIR

Roadmap

Current state: conceptual prototype with monitoring screens and seizure classification views. Next steps: evaluation talks with a Swiss neurology department, review of a FHIR interface to clinical systems, setup of a clinical validation study — without which no medical device approval is possible.

FAQ

Is epiLoom approved for clinical use?
No. epiLoom is a concept prototype without clinical validation and without regulatory approval. The system is not intended for patient care.
Is the AI seizure prediction in active use?
The AI component is implemented as a demonstration module — it shows how such a prediction could be integrated into the interface. A clinically validated prediction would require a prospective dataset, a validation study and approval under MedDO.
Which standards are supported?
The interface is oriented on ILAE 2017 for seizure classification, ICD-10-GM for diagnostic codes, and structurally on EPD and FHIR for potential data integration.
